1969 headlight actuator orientation
I’ve finished balsting, painting and cleaning all my headlight assemblies and put them together with the back vacuum ports facing the center of the car. But when I look at the AIM it shows both actuators facing left, towards the drivers side. I’ve also looked up photos of other 69s and find them all diiferent ways. Just so my vacuum lines connect easily which is the proper way? Both facing left or center or both facing out?
Thanks,
Pat

How were they positioned before you took them out?

When I got my 69 it had custom work done to the front nose including rectangular headlights so I cant go by what they were like when I took them out. As Alan’s show they seem to be every which way.

My 69 has them the same way as Alan's, pointing towards each fender. No idea what's really right but he has owned his car since new. Might have depended on who was installing them at the factory on any given day.

If the vacuum tubes face opposite directions and both tubes are at the bottom of the canister there is (or was) a left and right canister originally from the factory. Looking at aftermarket canisters at Corvette Central, when buying a pair they both face the same direction. I think it's for cheap production as it wouldn't really matter much as long as the tube is at the bottom so there is no interference with the hood. You can't turn the canister over so the tube faces the other direction without moving the tube from the bottom of the canister to the top. Use what you have I guess but the tubes have to be at the bottom for clearance. The above pic is my 69 with original cans and opposite facing tubes.
