Snowflake Heads
OK I checked out the 074 Snowflake heads my buddy has that I intend to build this motor around:
The rocker stud holes have all been deepened to prevent breaking off. That's not what hurt this pair.
They've been welded, the top of an intake port blew right off. The roller cam was 740 lift at about 7800 rpm. I can't imagine how big the valve springs were.
The ports are gigantic and they have been ported a little.
They have bronze guides and hard seat inserts.
If I can read the date code on the underside properly, they were made Aug 10 1978. They were bought over the counter.

You mean "074" right? I think that's what they say in the picture. As long as they were repaired correctly, I don't think you should have any problems as long as you aren't running crazy spring pressures. When those heads were built I don't know they they ever had solid roller cams with crazy spring pressures in mind. A solid flat tappet with double valve springs should be no problem. I am envious, I had always wanted to pick up a pair of those heads. Keep us posted, I love builds of high horsepower motors that once existed.
*Edit*
I looked at the picture of the combustion chamber, that isn't a crack between the seats is it?
