Default Urgent! 1968 wiper o'ride light won't turn off.

We just got my friends 68 to start up again and I was seeing what worked and what didn't so I turned on the wiper switch and the wiper o'ride light came on, I don't have a 68 so I have no idea how to fix this and neither does my friend. Anyone know how to get this light to turn off?

-Ben

I have a 68 convert and have warning lights for: Door Ajar, Low Fuel, Seat Belt, High Beam and Brake, but none for the wiper override. Where is this light on your car? There is a **** on the bottom edge of the dash to the right of the steering column that turns the wiper override on and off, but my car does not have any light to warn if the override is on- which will drain the battery if left on overnight.

i believe this was one year only thing for the 68, I'm not too sure but it is located on the bottom right light, so Bellow the head lamp light.

I think that the override lite is on the later version 68, my January built doesn't have it. Override switch location is the bottom of left lower dash pad. T he farthest left is to open the headlights, [push/pull], center is a rotary switch to allow stoppage of wiper motion for wiper service, right- push pull for the opening of the wiper door. Obtain trouble shooting information from Wilcox Corvette, their wiring diagram will explain how the indicator light gets energized. T

The NCRS Judging Guide says the 68 wiper override tell-tale was added at about #13723 (March 1968). It was blanked off for earlier cars.

I have an early 68 so I dont have it but it would be tied to the rotary **** , not the pull switches, and the rotary **** just connects it to ground. If the wiper door is functioning correctly and the wipers park on their on then the pull **** is in the correct position and the rotary **** is in the normal position. I would check the **** again and then look for a ground issue on the wiring or incorrect wiring if the light comes on with the wipers when it shouldnt.

update
I checked all my wiring diagrams and that is not shown, howerever in the service bulleting it shows the light coming off the switch circuit with it own ground. So when the **** is turned to shut off the park position it breaks the ground circuit and the light bulb provides the ground circuit for that system which lights the bulb, in theory.

If the rotary switch isnt there look and see if its wired straight to ground or is hooked to the wire going to that light indicator

number 6 it comes out f the motor on the line going to the switch so it should be under the dash

Guess that explains it. Mine has an Oct 16, 1967 build date. I would have appreciated having the warning light. I bumped the override **** by mistake shortly after I got the car, left it on and it drained the battery. It took me a couple days to figure out why the battery kept losing charge. I now have the **** taped with duct tape to keep it off.

Mine turns very easily as well. I took a white paint pen and put a dot on it when I was sure it was in the off position so i can look down and be sure of its position

Interesting he didn't post what fixed the issue.... the system has a ground wire on the over-ride switch, if this ground isn't present the light will come on and stay on.

You can see the wire in the diagram below. (over ride switch bracket A in the picture below).

disconnect the wire at the switch, use a voltmeter on the resistance or diode setting and measure from the switch receptacle where the plug plugged in and to the frame its mounted to. 0 or close to 0 is a short and is the normal or on position and an infinite reading is off and what would stop the wipers
