Default Electric fan upgrade

What would be the optimum upgrade from stock to electric fan setup? A single large fan or dual setup?
What fans do you suggest? How much air should they move and which ones to get?

I have dual SPALS. THEY CAN BE QUITE LOUD! And are either on or off right now. Recommend you consider PWM. That's on my to-do list.

Delta PAG

Brushless fans... 1/2 the current pull.. 1/2 the weight..computer controlled speed, last forever.. no brushes means no RFI for later upgrade to EFI

same tech as you see on Quad copters and the like... Brushed fans are the way of the 8-track/

ASSuming the pix above matches the dual spals I have,* *and it looks damn close....I have to say that is the way to do.....just run the main fan power off the alt out stud directly with a ~30 amp fuse......no affect on the rest of the car......any computer that is upset by brush fans is a POS, and needs be wrapped in tin foil......serious, try it with your cphone,* wrap it in tinfoil and* then call it from another phone.....smack off the air......

opposed to 15 amps on the system wiring....

have you put on an EFI unit? I have, in fact several.... And they ALL have this problem.. the EFI it transmitted through the electrical system.. EVERYTHING is seen through the electrical system wiring,, filters for this are usually capacitors, diodes, and coils... Sorry tin foil isn't going to work here..
New cars wiring systems are built with this in mind.. our cars have NO EFI hardening in design.

Was an RF engineer for 20 some odd years... EFI/RFI is a bitch

I wouldn't call electric fans an upgrade, its just a different way of cooling. Original style fans worked fine on hundreds of thousands of cars before electric fans came along.

Found these:

i have have those fans and they work fine with an aluminum radiator.

Mine pull about 30 amps as I recall 15 Amps each. So maybe not identical.

for a cheaper conversion that also works well they are good. I figure I wanted two fans for duplicity in the system. They are wired separately, so if one fails the other will continue to keep it cool. Happened once already when a*Relay failed and the remaining fan kept it cool.
with my side pipes I can’t hear the fans

I've never had trouble with EFI and brushed fans working together. It'd have to be a poor EFI system (FAST?) to be messed up by an electric fan running. No trouble with the radio either for that matter.

A brushed fan using a PWM controller is still a decent solution. Decent brushed fans simply don't have a life expectancy issue for most C3's.

I have a Mark VIII electric fan and am using it with a FAST EZ-EFI 2.0. No problems with EFI -RFI.... of course I was careful in routing and grounding.

I've been fighting a HFI all summer with the Sniper EFI. Installed all the OEM radio interference kit and had to tin foil the multiconductor to the O2 sensor where it gets close to the plug wires. Drove the car yesterday 90 miles, no problem. There is a setting that can be changed in the Sniper EFI so that it isn't so sensitive to HFI, but need someone with more PC knowledge to make that adjustment. T

A set like I bought. Less than the missing shroud for my 75... https://m.ebay.com/itm/98-04-Chevrol...wAAMXQVT9SubtG. And chubby built them to last the car's warranty. Not 90 days... and they also designed them to cool a Corvette...

i bet those outperform the aftermarket fans by a good margin. I would have liked have found a set of those back when I did i my electric fan install.
Do you know how many amps they pull?

I've been told that the Ford Focus dual fan blower (like FO3115156) fits nicely.

I have a single spal from DeWitts. I believe its the 16". I had a stock clutch fan but couldnt keep it under 230*F in stop and go traffic and would have to pull out and let it cool down. I also couldnt run above 75mph on the highway without it heating up past 210. Just changing the clutch fan to the single spal keeps me hovering close to 200*F on a hot day at 80 mph. I dont get close to overheating in traffic any more. Thats with a 327/ Muncie 4 speed and a 3.70 rear end so im around 3500 rpm at speed. If a had a 5 speed I bet I would be down near 180*F

An electric fan certainly is an upgrade over a clutch fan. Consumes less horsepower and usually cools better if the fan is setup correctly.

While I agree a simple clutch fan works fine most of the time, but if you live a hot climate and run AC, it may not be enough. I'm dealing with this right now on my Dad's 70' SS Nova... 7 blade clutch fan/severe duty clutch works GREAT when moving...but get stuck in some traffic with the AC on and its 225* + QUICK.... I've let it go as high as 235* before turning the AC off... This is with a brand new engine, new aluminum radiator etc and a new fan clutch... Its simply just not enough cooling at idle. I know a good set of E fans would have it under 200* but...... He wants to keep the "original" look so.....I said "Fine, tell that to your wife when you turn the AC off on a 95* day...." LOL
