Default Power Window lift motor

Have a 1971 Stingray with an inoperable passenger side window lift motor. Window is in down position & cannot gain access to motor bolts. How to raise window to halfway point is my question. Please help.

First, are you sure it's the motor?

but anyway

not sure on the vette but assuming its like my old 79 Camaro from high school, the window can be raised manually with the door inside panel removed, just take your time when lifting and be sure all the moving parts are moving with the window, gentle pressure here is key to advoid breaking anything, if they arnt then something is jammed and that's the likely problem, although motors are known to fail like the op pointed out its unlikely to be the motor as its usually a stuck point in the lifter arm. again im going from experience with a 79 Camaro which may or may not apply to your application.

Been there.

First, there are some extremely helpful photos in this thread.

Once you remove the armrest, inner door panel etc. you remove all of the attachment and adjustment bolts. Then drill out the three rivets that hold the window motor and regulator. (If serviced before the bolts may have been replaced with nuts and bolts. If you don't have the large rivet gun then use stop nuts with nylon inserts to prevent them from loosening.)

After doing the above the entire window glass and mechanism can be moved around such that you can remove the fasteners that hold the glass itself after which everything will be free.

Plan on spending quite a bit of time as you'll probably need to remove, clean and relubricate nearly everything inside the door (including the lock mechanism) while you're at it. The lift assist spring commonly breaks which leads to motor failure. Rollers are also parts that commonly need to be replaced.

Before you start tearing things apart, remove the door panel and pull the plug on the motor. Jump a 12v battery positive wire to 1 prong of the motor and run the ground to the motor case or metal part on the door frame. One motor prong is power down and the other is power up. If the motor works, look for a bad switch but more than likely a broken wire in the boot between door and body.
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Held the switch & wacked the motor w/a hammer & got the window in the hallway position. My only dilemma is where to put the bolt everyone is talking about to prevent injury to me and/or the car. I have a new motor & while it is apart I plan on changing it. A picture of where to place the bolt would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the replies.
