What Torque for Headers 1970 454
Can anyone suggest the torque for reassembling headers to iron heads and the best tightening sequence for my 1970 454?
Is it recommended to fit gasket dry or use a gasket compound?
Kind regards
Paul

If you have aluminum heads use a tiny bit of anti seize on the threads
Gaskets dry
Not aware of any sequence, I usually get them threaded, snug to about 20 lbs then give ea one a little more. Not super tight
Iron heads....that may be bad advice.

you tighten from the center outwards

And after you run the engine a couple of times, retighten all the bolts. Expect them to loosen a bit as the gaskets set.

I retighten mine (from new gasket install) EVERY heat/cool cycle- for about a week then back off to every couple of weeks. And the wrench I use is pretty long.

I would contact the header manufacturer and ask them for the torque value,
The newer Sanderson Headers require no gaskets.
Hedman and Hooker each suggest different gaskets on their websites.
