Default Need a GREAT place to install a Sirus antenna

Just bought the Retro Sound Long Beach model radio for my 1981.

I had replaced and rebuilt the original UM6 three times and got tired of fixing this and repairing that ,
so this is the first non-stock item I`m putting on my baby.

But..…!
Here`s the thing.
I need a good place to install the antenna.

They say that I need a clear view to the sky.
I was thinking up behind the defroster grid grill.
Was told the glass might give me spotty reception .

Any ideas people ?

I would love to keep it out of sight and inside the car if possible

Thanks for your help.

I have my Xm ant. Mounted inside on the back window at the top center. Wire runs under dash to door seal then up side pillar.
works fine

Lay it sideways behind you. Glass deck might pass signal. I know car radio antennas work inside boats.

I understand the idea of hding the antenna. I have even read about guys who use the rear defroster grid in the back window for regular am/fm radios. My experience with the sirius is that it needs to be out in the open. If it was me ( and someday when my 78 project is done, it will be me) I would just put the sirius antenna up behind the ttops. I am not talking about the fins style, but the original flat disc one, about 2" in diameter. You really don't notice it, and if someone does, they will figure, OK the guy has sirius and likes to drive his car. I had a nissan 300ZX 2+2 model and that is where I put my antenna. Got perfect reception for the 10+ years I had the car. Just my $.02, which isn't worth as much as it used to be.

The best place is somewhere you can't see it, or it replaces the stock antenna. I made this plug to replace the antenna in my 80. I have no spare tire, and tiny mufflers, so getting into this space is easy. You could put the antenna here if it cleanly replaces the stupid-looking stock antenna, or you could put it anywhere under the rear fenders (or front fenders for that matter). XM and GPS receivers should have no problem working through fiberglass. Here's a thread from 8 years ago discussing the same thing:

On my '74 I just stuck it on top of the fuel tank. Works pretty good.

Pull some trim and put it in the roof between the T tops.

Mounted mine center of the dash right behind the windshield. I do get some fading and signal loss in heavily wooded areas but other than that the reception is good.

502 c-3 is correct. Just stick it on top of the gas tank. The signal will go thru the fiberglass.
