Default Fantastic Article on Valve Train Deflection

https://www.enginelabs.com/engine-te...st-valve-lift/

Covers a lot of ground. I really liked the idea of thinking about the spring forces @ max lift and then dividing that by the amount of deflection and using that # as an indicator of total valve train stiffness.

Eh. Not a very scientific article.

Why would you say that? I would have liked them to test the thicker walled pushrods after spending so much time talking about it, but I thought their methods were better than most of us bother with. As any Vizard follower knows, the end result is the sum of all of the small improvements.

It was thought provoking article.
i was surprised that a stud girdle only reduced deflection by 16%, kinda thought it would be more like 50% or better.

anything that can stiffen up the valve train is going to be of benefit though.

Didn't test pushrods, didn't test 7/16" rocker studs. Are those springs a little stiff for that much lift? They didn't say the max RPM for the engine either. It seemed as if they knew the results they were looking for and wrote and article around those results. There was a poster on ST who had more lift due to deflection and one of the better respected builder commented that thicker, stiffer push rods aren't always better.

I agree in principle with they were doing and do agree with the Vizard way of thinking.

Looks like the stud girdle may be the best bang for buck.
