Default 496 Oil Pan recommendation

Need recommendation for a oil pan for the 496 4.25 Stroker I'm building. Which pan bolts up with no problem?

Thanks
Jim

How much RPM? If you're spinning it high you need a good pan. If staying in the 6000 range a simple Moroso will do.

The Moroso 20403 pan will clear the frame/steering well. It WILL have some windage issues if you run more then 5.5 qts with a 4.25" crank. The pan works fine but I would also look hard at the Milodon with the pan rail kick out like Jim has.

It really comes down to how much you want to pay. I have two racing type pans for my two motors. Adjustable crank scrapers, side and front to rear baffles. fully screened.

the big thing is get at least a 7 quart for cooling. these are for a vette and 4.250 stroke

The red line should be about 6500 RPM. What pan are you running?

I'm using the Milodon 31188 stepped drag race pan. Arguably the best out there for a wet sump pan. It simply holds oil pressure perfectly even at 8000+ RPM with my 555" and never drops on deceleration either. It's got some simple design features like a sump that is smaller at the bottom vs being kicked out. Whatever oil gets back to the pan at high RPM is thus deeper over the pickup and no starvation. It also has a full length kickout on the right side rail area to allow oil to get away from crank. The front part of the pan is also critical with a stroker as the oil needs room to get away from the crank.
It just barely fits in Vette's and clears drag link with no real drama. The Moroso "race" pans are about a 1/4 deeper and don't clear. The pan Allen mentioned is fine for 6500 RPM and will have a little better ground clearance if you're low. My pan is about even with the bottom of the scattershield.

Here's a couple of pics...(I tried...for some reason pics won't load tonight....)

Another vote for the Milodon 31188. Works great in my 496.
