Who has done one? I see pics from time to time with members that have them. My stock compressor is in great shape but I am reluctant to put it on the car as it weighs some 25 lbs. I want the air working before it gets hot again next year.
Is there a kit available that ties into existing lines?
What did you do and how did you do it?
Thanks in advance!

Hey Jebby,
I put a Classic Auto Air kit on my '81. It had factory air but the hoses were shot (and everything else). The kit uses the Sanden type compressor. It came with new hoses that had to be made up. I went to a local garage and had them made up. The kit used different brackets than the factory to mount the compressor. It cools great in my black on black Vette. Even here in the brutal Central Texas summers.

Very cool...thanks for that.......were you able to tie into the factory reciever drier and evaporator lines? That is my worry....my system is in excellent condition and do not want to pull any of this stuff out.
Yes it is brutal here some days......why I want it up and running......do you have any other detailed pics?
Hopefully next year we can meet up as I missed that Airplane show in San Marcos......

Peace,

Yes. The lines came with the correct fittings to connect to the factory condenser and the accumulator. The accumulator was quite a bitch to connect due to the location. I went in from under the car to get to it
You may just need to splice into the hoses that you have. Wouldn't that be nice? Example - http://www.airsept.com/Products/Details/38
We need to get together before then Jebby. I'll try to get down there for a show soon.

Great kit.....I will look them up.
Yes.....I let my reg expire but just a matter of paying the $75.....let me know if there is something nearby....haven’t been to a show in over a year.....
Thanks for pics
If I remember correctly Sanden makes a compressor with a rear plate that accepts the factory lines. Vintage Air should be able to sell you the right one.

Wow....that was what I thought somebody should make!
Mall of my lines, fittings, etc....are pristine so Inwould live to keep them.
Vintage Air is 15 miles away in Bracken so I will call them!
There are so many different sanden compressor configurations. There has to be a stock one on some car somewhere that we can just buy from the boneyard and put a couple of adapters on it or something and get it onto our cars where that giant compressor lives.
My '72 got a complete vette serp drive from a '88-91 vette......hoses were a bitch up north, but here in FLORIDA, a shop up the street had no sweat making 134 hoses for it I later on replaced the POA valve and the expansion valve.....but over the years it has developed a slo leak, PIA.....sniffers can't find it...about a 1/2 a can/month, and the gauges don't see it.....freezes on output of expansion valve, put in 134 and it stops freezing as the cabin gets cold....go figger....
I thought it looked the same. I wonder why Rock Auto doesn't list that compressor for 1972.
No idea but an A6 type compressor is an A6 compressor..Sanden or not. Rockauto lists the Aluminum A6 Sanden under my 78 C3 even though the 78 C3's had an R4 compressor. They do stuff like that often with my other cars. You need to know what you are looking for with them sometimes......

Is the fittings/ports or the way it bolts up any different?
