I just picked up a BO 2004r from a fellow hotrodder and have a few questions.I know the mount is 6" further towards the rear of the 2004r trans compared to the th350 and most recommend just buying new correct crossmember. I was going to do that untill I thought about it for a few. Some c-3's came w/ th400 tans. and the mount is about 6"further back also. Now w/that being said can I just remove the th350 mount on the crossmember and use the th400 mount holes? Pinion angle? Lock up converter or non? Anything else required,tricks/tips and or feedback would be greatly apprec. Thank You
My '72 had a 4 speed Muncie and I wanted o/d so cheaper solution was an auto trans.....20 years ago, still today I suspect....so I put a 700 in there, sat on the forward mount that the muncie had......from what you say, probably same as what a 350 trans would use.....but later on I went to the 200 4r I built myself, and it sat right square up on the cross member....but being a stick shift car, that cross piece was welded in....so I cut the thing out, had the cross piece welded up with L angle iron to intersect with the stubs on the frame rails, and a 1/2-5/8 bolt going through the angle iron and the mount stub fore/aft/horizontal the exhaust bottom loops cut out, and the top loops reinforced for strength, making dropping the exhaust simple......
but length wise the 200 trans is same as the muncie was, same as 350 is, and so use same drive shaft, MAY have to change yoke, but unsure about that.....
Yes, you will need to remove TH350/4spd mount bracket from your cross member and use the TH400 mount holes which are drilled directly in the cross member itself. The 200R will bolt right up to those holes in the cross member.
Your TH350 drive shaft will work fine with the 200R as both are the same output spline and length.
Here is an excellent thread with pics of a TH400 to 200R swap.
