Time to change my intake gaskets, plugs, etc. Thinking about FelPro composite on my 383 with RPM intake.
Anybody had problems with these metal core gaskets? I've always used FelPro and won't use anything else.
Thanks.
No problem with them that I know of. Had some leakage but that was because of bolts walking loose. I had to keep checking the torque on them for a while for some reason. But that resolved itself.
Well you certainly have a huge variety in the FelPro choices for intakes. Not only headport height but headport width, plus the thickness of the gasket itself such as 0.060 or 0.120 and a few others. I not sure about the metal core however. A rubber / cork laminate combo makes more sense because you are wanting to crush that gasket.
That gasket is also one of the few that receives and has to have the ability to control three liquids: Gas, Oil, Glycol.
Applications like oil pan, timing cover, valvecover, a metal core is a good idea to prevent over torqueing / crushing of the gasket and "squeeze-out".
I firmly believe that surface prep of the head with Acetone, then using Edelbrocks Gastinich (sp ?) on both sides of gasket, then Permatex The Right Stuff on the china walls is more important than a metal core.

Thanks for the replies. I'm just going to go with the old standby of Fel Pro SF1205. Got a can of gaskicinch so I'm ready to start.
Thanks again.
