guide to car parts' weights
Table of weights of car parts: heads, blocks etc
For second gen Camaro but much applies to C3
Guide seems reasonable. Compare iron intake versus alum etc etc

OK, I'll weigh in here. I got this column support to swap out the cast iron boat anchor next time I get behind the dash. It weighs about 7#'s as I recall. I don't know what the original weighs but I am guessing 69427 does.
This could be a very enlightening thread!

Sorry for the delay, life just keeps getting in the way of my hobby. The original cast iron piece is 9#, and the stamped steel portion of the assembly is an additional 2.5#.

Fuel tank empty weight?
Anybody know the empty weight of an early (like '69, for example) fuel tank? Been a long time since I had the tank out of the car, and I'm just looking for more weight reduction ideas.
Thanks for any help.

You could maybe substitute nylon tie downs for the two straps? Pretty slim savings though. The bumper brackets are kind of hefty and they bolt together so that joint could be eliminated with a single solid aluminum piece.. The other diagonal brace could easily be aluminum tubing. I gave away some aluminum tie rod shafts for the front. Big2bird I think. I don't know if they exist anymore as I got them from Guldstrand.

I'd like to replace my stock transmission crossmember to the single bar to lighten it, but I just can't justify the $300+ cost. I see them on Jegs or Summit for other chevy vehicles for around $75, they like to take advantage of corvette owners.
