Default Removing fender attachment points glue: Yes, no, how?

I am redoing the firewall. Lots of old glue where the fenders attached. Stubborn as hell to remove. It occurred to me; should I even remove it? It's about 1/8" to 1/4" thick in some places. If so, heat? I tried a chisel with no luck. Ground a test area with my grinder, and that worked, but what a mess!

Wear a good respirator if you are sanding or grinding fiberglass, that stuff is not good to breathe.

I havn't done it but I would think one of the Multi Tools with a Carbide Blade would go to town on it. I will also be doing the same thing shortly.

I would remove all that old glue. I certainly did remove a LOT with a heat gun and scraper: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1595808878

I myself use my right angle Roloc grinder with 24 girt on it in one hand..and the tube of my running shop vac in the other and grind it off and while doing so I have the tube of my shop vac where the stuff beign ground oft the area gets thrown right into the tube. NO MAJOR MESS if you do it slow enough. Which...actually ...not running your grinder at full speed actually goes faster due to you are not wearing out your grinding discs and it throws off good size chunks of the adhesive.,....versus...when you grind at high speed...it creates more of a fine dust.

I do not waste my time with a heat gun because you still have to grind the surface for the adhesive that is going back on it.....even though in some areas I do use a heat gun.. but it takes longer. And this are is not one are I would do it that way.

Some use a torch to heat up the adhesive and burn it out and also a wire brush get it to come off. I have tried it and just do not care to do it that way. Even though it does work.

Thanks Dub. I found I was able to get the panel I wanted to remove to come off with heat, but the glue is just as you said. It's not budging.
