Default Rally wheels for 77

Hey guys

I found some rally wheels (Belgium) and was wondering if they would fit my 77.
My vette has the aluminum wheels installed (original), but I like the look of the 'rally wheels' better.

This is the info the seller gave me (I don't know what the numbers mean.):
14 inch 7J , 5x 4.75 (5x120.6)
Year: 1969
K-1-9 stamp

The bolt pattern is correct, but a 14" wheel will not work. You'll need at least 15" wheels to clear your brakes.

Lots of vendors sell cheap repros, but I don't know how easy they are to get in Belgium. They are also heavier than your YJ8 aluminum wheels.

In addition I could not find any Rally wheel for any Chevrolet with a code of 7J. Are you sure it is the number "7"?

With the exception of 68, Corvette rally wheels are 15x8 and stamped AZ. Installing the 14s on your car will mean new tires for you.

Thank you guys for the info.
I didn't buy them, and some other guy bought them before me.

I would try to find somebody to trade your aluminum wheels for their correct rally wheels that would make it a lot simpler

That's true, but here in Belgium corvette owners are hard to find... (sorry if I forgot to say I'm from Belgium).
But I will be in the states this summer travelling from New York (City) to Georgia. Do you know where I can find cheap (used) rally wheels in that area?

Will you be here the last week of August? If so, you could hardly do better than Corvettes at Carlisle, in Pennsylvania. You should have no trouble finding everything you need there. http://www.carlisleevents.com/carlis...e/default.aspx

On the other hand these wheels come up for sale here on the C3 Parts for Sale/Wanted Forum all of the time. If you find a set, you could buy them and have them sent to a friend here on the Forum or a location where you plan to be while in the U.S., where you can pick them up conveniently when you're here.

The correct rally wheels for your car will be 15" X 8" wide, with 4" of backspacing. They should also have the AZ code on them if they are original Corvette wheels. I only say this because there are quite a few vendors selling aftermarket rally wheels that will work as long as they have the correct dimensions. Also don't forget the trim rings and caps that go with them.

Good luck... GUSTO

The factory alloy wheels come with lug nuts that incorporate the taper to accommodate the spare tire which is mounted on a steel rally wheel. After '77 the spare became a steel space saver wheel, that necessitated the tapered lug-nut as well.

I do carry a small plastic bag with 5 standard steel lug-nuts to keep from damaging the chrome of the alloy wheel lug-nuts if i need to use my spare.

Good luck... GUSTO
