Tremec TKO600
Wonder if the people that have converted to a Tremec 5 speed, if you used a different fluid for the 500 mile break in period. Or did you fill the unit with the tremec fluid from the beginning. I ask because the instructions state to fill the unit with the supplied fluid and follow break in procedure for the first 500 miles. However when talking with Silver Sport Transmission, it was suggested to fill the unit with Dextron ll ATF for the first 500 miles.

When I bought my trans (TKO-5 speed) from silver sport, they asked if I wanted to purchase break in fluid from them. I did since it was easiest. I probably could get it a little cheaper somewhere else, maybe, but I figured its covered if I get it from them. I haven't installed it yet. Its on my ever growing list of things I want to get to.

Compared to what you invested it might be worth looking into some of the top brands. I think that they have a free shipping deal. Royal Purple might be another choice.
My TKO is still kicking with. https://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-produ...n-fluid-5w-30/

I never changed the oil in mine, wasn't a recommendation I received. But after ~40,000 miles it is out of the car currently so that I can replace the clutch and re-seal the extension housing, so it will get fresh oil when it goe back into the car.

I bought my TKO 600 from Modern Driveline. They supplied it with Amsoil synthetic with instructions to fill it a and forget it, which is what I have done. There has definitely been a break in period, however. The shifting characteristics of the transmission have changed enormously in the time I've had it, especially the first 500-1000 miles. With that in mind, if I had it to do over again, I might consider breaking it in with a conventional oil and switching to a synthetic after that. I'm be interested in hearing from those with more transmission experience than I have.
BTW the trans has been good overall. I've had some issues with shifter rattle, and the 2-3 shift takes some getting used to especially if you are used to Muncies and Saginaws. I've also got a small leak from the speedo cable fitting but I've decided that leaks are just part of owning this car.

The TKO 600 made the car fun to drive. We wanted to do all day 300-500 mile rides and it just not very practical with a 4 spd. I hated driving it more than 30-40 miles on the highway with the 4 spd. Great upgrade, you'll never be sorry. I used Pennzoil Synchromesh from the start and have been pleased. I changed it at 500 miles and it had some metal fines in it. I changed it again after 5000 miles or so and it looked very clean with no metal. It's been 15000 miles since then.
