Default Cold air intake on 1975?

I’m repairing a small crack on the underside of my hood beneath the bracket that mounts between the catches and was forced to remove it. I thought it was there as a structural aid but lo and behold it has an electrically operated cold air intake? Looks lime it’s designed to let in the low pressure aire from the base of the windshield. Yes, I’m clearly an idiot for never realizing this was a feature on these cars? I have never heard of this, seen it or seen it discussed in the forum. Can anyone fill me in on how it’s actuated? It clearly has wiring attached. I would have thought vacuum, but there’s no vacuum line. My car is a manual and has the stock carburetor so there’s no electric choke. Can anyone shed any light on this feature? Thanks.

The surprise I discovered under my hood!

The door is actuated by a switch located at the accelerator pedal, it only opens upon wide open throttle.
Here is a photo of the switch, same switch used for kick down on an automatic, used on 73-75 cowl hoods.

Gotta have the correct air cleaner for it to work correctly.

Tom73 on this forum collected all the factory information regarding the cold air intake on the the '73-'75s when he maintained the "73 Spot" web site. If you contact him he can probably still supply it to you.

The brown and black wires run down to the front of the hood and connect at the left front corner near the headlight canister and then make their way to the switch that is shown above.

Default Thank you!

Thanks all for the information. I'll make sure it's functional and go from there. I have the air cleaner covered!

Or, do what I did. I removed the flapper and boxed it up. All cold air all the time, not just at wide open throttle.

The wires to open the solenoid come off a connector located around the main wire caigoing to the driver headlight. The cold air cable then runs up the drivers side to the solenoid. I had two put two rubber hoses on the round switch shaft to make the switch close when the pedal is pushed to the floor. You can turn the ignition on, don’t start the engine, and hear the solenoid open.

The switch is self adjusting; you shouldn't have to use the rubber hoses. To adjust, push the slide as far as you can towards the accelerator pedal. Then push the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and it will be adjusted correctly.

I even purchased a new switch and read the adjusting technique, but it didn’t work. It may be that I didn’t understand how to index the switch, or Bubba or 46 years of driving changed the pedal linkage under the dash? Another mystery that wasn’t solved.
