Broke the retaining bolt side view mirror.
My passenger side mirror was loose so I tightened the hex bolt and it snapped off leaving part of the bolt where it threads in to the mirror base. I can’t use any kind of extraction tool because the bolt passes through a non threaded portion of the mirror base before it enters the threaded hole leaving no easy access to the broken bolt.
I thought about drilling out the broken broken piece then tapping the new hole one size up but then a replacement bolt will no longer work because it will be too small for the newly tapped hole. The flanged portion of the bolt is what appears to slide in and tighten the mirror to the base.
Do do I just bite the bullet and purchase a whole new mirror or do you think if I tap a new hole and use a new non flanged hex bolt that it will hold the mirror securely? The flanged hex head in the left of this picture is what snapped.
