Paul, just put my "kids" away yesterday. They cried a little, but quickly went back to sleep

ps, looks like someone vandalized your license plate :mad

Paul,
I do not know why I do the licence plate edit. Just too cautious in my old age. Today was the perfect(?) day to do the storage job: it was 34F with pretty heavy snow flurries. So it was time....It will drop to -7C (18F) tonight.

Just in case anyone is interested. That storage facility can take about 450 cars. They was a pretty steady stream coming in at noon today when I was there. A lot of exotica but the mundane also. And of course, a few Mustangs. Canadian Military Peacekeepers use it when going abroad for six-month stints. It is heated and very secure. I have my car covered and started one a month to idle operating temperature. The battery is trickle-charged if need be. For that service I pay $100CDN ($65US) per month. In my opinion, that is a bargain. I certainly have peace-of-mind when the temp is -10F and 20" of snow is falling.

On the insurance side, I drop road coverage for the winter but retain fire and theft (comprehensive). My overall insurance cost for 2002 was in the neighbourhood of $300US. The car is plated for the entire year for $74CDN ($45US). In this Province, that is based on your birth date.

Just a little bit of trivia, as usual.

I find the change of seasons refreshing, to be honest. Winter can be a wonderful time if you engage in sports and snow/ice activities. And Corvetting does not end: our Club has many events to keep members in touch and meetings to plan for our priorities for 2003. And there is nothing like the day in April when the nose of my Corvette is pointing up that ramp......!!! Carly Simon; "Anticipation." I feel it already!

Paul, I also love the change of seasons. Only thing I hate about it is, it's like New Years Day-one more year gone by, one more year you've gotten older  I also don't mind put the kids to sleep, got more to look forward to when Spring rolls around. :yesnod:

ps, I can visit my kids ANYTIME while they are sleeping :p:

For me, winter is the time when I get the real work done on the car. Last winter, it was the front suspension restore and rebuild. This year, it's the rear. I don't feel bad about putting it up on jackstands and taking it apart for a month or two when the snow is flying. I just can't bring myself to do that when it's warm and sunny.

That place certainly looks like a good deal for the price if you don't have any work to do. See ya' in spring!

Paul and Flareside. I can visit but no work allowed. But quite frankly I just let the car sleep and do not disturb it.

What is really silly is that you left the name "Boyd Vehicle Storage" in the photo. I was able to find the address in less than 2 minutes. If a would be thief wanted your car they would know right where where it is for the next 5 months. I would not call that cautious.

Sometimes I think the world is going to H*&* in a handbasket. Especially when I get this kind of reply to what I intend to be a light-hearted and useful thread. That facility is very secure, believe me.

The edit on the licence plate prevents people from tracing my home address. Where I live this can be done very easily from the Ministry of Transport (MOT) for a small fee. And at MOT computer kiosks at shopping centres using a VISA card. Paranoia? I would use the word caution. How many members/lurkers follow this Forum? At last count about 40,000....'Nuff said.

paul79: I half-expected someone to post something like that. Don't sweat it...some folks just have to look at the negative. At least you have "visitation rights" at the storage facility. It always helps to at least look at her while she's sleeping. I will be working on mine in their new garage, so I'm hoping to get both of them in better shape by the spring. Today the leaves started dropping from the trees with a vengeance, so I suspect the big chill is just around the corner. I did manage to pick up the "antique vehicle" license plates for my '72 today. Now I can procede to pollute the air like a maniac, since I don't have to take the pollution test with those plates. I have an aluminum LS-6 manifold on the way and am shopping for a new Holley carb. Christmas presents for my babies :)

Thanks, Dep. The sun is going down but as you can see we have a "few" leaves here. And it is 20F. I might have chosen a different storage facility if I needed to do work but most has been done on mine, thank goodness. BTW, the sound quality on that Jan&Dean CD in really good. Must have been some re-mixing along the way??.

You are in the Great Lakes snow belt just south of me. It does get rough down there in the winter!

Paul: e-mail me about the CD. I have something you may be interested in.
mbonomo@juno.com

Leaves on some of our trees are still up. Cedar tress are dropping like crazy though. The gravel I laid down for my driveway is completely covered by them. Our night temps are down in the 20s and it doesn't go above 40s during the day. I guess that's actually warm compared to where you are. I plan on getting my '98 out Sunday for a quick ride to my buddy's house. That may be the last blast of the year for me.

Wow. I just got back from putting my baby away too. *sigh*

Changed the insurance status to "withdrawn" and added fire and theft.

Kind of annoys me... I'm going to be paying more to store it for 3 months than I did to insure it all summer. (May-Nov)

Oh well. I can visit any time but can't drive. Hope to be doing some work this winter.

Why more to store than drive?? I pay $15.00/ month to store; full comprehensive insurance in a secured facility.
