Default Wiring a volt gauge in a 68

Brain farting here but remember a thread on here where a member put a volt gauge in and wired his hot off of the fuel gauge. Tried the search and I'll be damned if I can find it.
Can anyone help?

why not run it directly to the fuse box and use the empty IGN position?

Thanks Mel, but the way he did it seemed a lot easier and don't have yo use the IGN fuse tab

Can't tell if you want to wire a nonstock voltage gauge or a stock voltage gauge. So I had to download a online wiring diagram to see the stock 68 corvettes had an ammeter which means you are installing aftermarket voltage gauge.

Well I think you want that gauge "switched" to turn on only when ignition is on. There is a tan wire on the fuse block that goes to the fuel gauge you could splice into. The other side of that fuse is a pink wire but I don't think you want to use it unfused. I guess that should be as good as any of the fused side of power wires and a voltmeter draws such little current it shouldn't affect the gas reading - but it could as it adds parallel resistance which serves to reduce total resistance.

Hope this helps.

I put a stock type voltage gauge in place of the battery gauge in my '69. Just remove the Batt. gauge and install the volt. gauge. Tape its wires aside. Put in the volt gauge and take your +12v from the fuel gauge. The new gauge gets its ground from the console when it's reinstalled.

Thanks Stroker, that's what I was looking for

I wired my 68 off the black ammeter 12 volt source line. Cut and sealed the black and white 12 volt return line and ran a new ground to the bird age. I also have a bettery cutoff switch so I'm not worried about killing the battery. The volt meter i bought came with a little wiring diagram, I'm guessing yours is used?
