I was recently taking my 81 out of storage and i hooked the battery up and there was bit of smoke that came from the harness by the starter before i even cranked it. No there is no power to anything except the fog lamps , any ideas?

Fusible link at starter. ALso check fusible links at horn relay as well

Did you connect the battery wrong?

There is a connector near the dip stick tube that the main power comes through from the starter connection. The connector corrodes and fails over time. Could also be the fusible link as mentioned. If the harness, I pulled the main wires from the connector and wired direct and never had an issue since.
