Default Steering column shaft depth into rag joint.

Could I get some expert advice on this? Is the steering column shaft far enough into the rag joint. Not really sure what I can do to get it further in. Original steering column, original gearbox. Thanks as always!

As long as the bolt engages into the flat area on the steering shaft without stretching the rag joint you should be fine

The full diameter part on the end keeps the shaft from being able to pull out. I went through this with Jim a handful of years ago as I was surprised at the gap

Looks like need extend that collapsible column shaft outta the column by about 1/2 inch or so, stick vicegrips on it and pry it out a tad, if necessary attach the coupling/flex joint, and use it to hit on/lever to get shaft into position.....

Steering column looks too far back into the firewall, if you engage the bolt as it is the rag will not be flat. The column is collapsed , could have happened when installing the aftermarket rag joint. Mr Vette is correct, the column needs to be drawn down.

Is it even possible to draw it down without removing the entire steering column? I am sure this is just a dream. Was hoping not to remove it for the 3rd time. 😄

Yes it can be done, some have used a come-a-long but I had a 5' length of brass stock, I just clamped on the flange and drove it down with a hammer. worked fine and didn't cause a problem just don't back swing into the windshield.

This is all important in ensuring the safety of the connect. I halfway remember this takes a special bolt.
