Default sill plate screw holes fix?

couple my sill plate screw holes are too big now. what is a solid good fix? I read somewhere about jb weld.. but is their a more permanent fix? I was thinking some kind of metal plug that expands on underside of hole or something like that?

You could always weld it and re-drill them for a perm fix, but may be a little extreme.

Would a drywall anchor work?

A 'satisfactory' semi-permanent fix is to plug the existing holes with JB Weld stick/putty epoxy (5-minute work & harden time), then drill smaller holes. BUT, you then have to refrain from torquing the he!! out of the screws to hold those flimsy aluminum sill plates down. Just a snug-up will do it.

I would use something like this. You could weld in place or use epoxy for added insurance.

Actually, I am certain that I will have to do this as I remember stripping a few as I tried to take off the original rusted ones so thanks for bringing this up.

I’ve looked all over locally for these. Most places don’t have a clue.

The sill plates had sheet metal screws in them from the factory...not machine screws. Either will work, but machine screw retention strength is not needed for the flimsy sill plates.

Those inserts (or hardware store "T" nuts) are great for repairing damaged/missing threaded inserts for mounting the rocker panels. The original inserts were #10-24 threads.

Like mentioned, I don't think that they will work with a sheet metal screw? IDK, maybe they will, they are cheap, give em a try.

Ditto here, that is what I use. Also will sometimes just place a wire or plastic weed eater line cut piece in the wallowed out hole to reduce the id and give the screw something to bite into. Hubba Hubba Bubba!

Hope this helps.

Harbor Freight has them- works great on the smaller sizes- a little over $20 Try the term rivet nut or rivnut- and you'll find them.

Take a carter pin bend the legs 90 degrees and insert it into the hole, head first.

Depending on how goobered the hole , a small usually works fine..

Screw tightened up fine...

if i remember correctly the hole around the fiberglass is around 5]16-3\8 around the sill plate holes into the rocker channel clean/scuff the metal up turn up the welder and burn that hole shut, done and permanent. drill and run the screw through. no screwing around or looking for inserts, etc

I narrowed the hole in the fiberglass sill using a small fiberglass fill - worked great and gave the screws something to bite into.
