ECM Delete-What set up fits under '81 hood?
I have an '81 with a stock hood. I know that I must replace the dist and computer Qjet carb. Still trying to get that aspect straight. Originally planned on an Edelbrock 1406 carb on an Edelbrock 2101 (square bore) intake and an HEI dist. Edelbrock tech says that a 2701 (spread bore) intake won't fit under corvette hood and he says to use the 2101, yet many on other forums say they have the 2701 and it works fine?? I can' understand why the Edelbrock tech people are so adamant against the 2701 yet so many vette owners say it fits? I'm getting a ton of conflicting advice about set ups. Which intake, carb, and air cleaner combination will fit under a stock '81 hood? There is just so much conflicting info about what works and doesn't.
Can those who have done the ECM delete, especially if on an '81, tell me what intake, carb, and air cleaner set ups have worked for you? What mods, if any, did you have to make; most likely with the fuel inlet on an Edelbrock carb? (I'd prefer a straight feed, but some say a banjo is necessary if they use a drop flange air cleaner.
Ideally??? I'd like to stay with the stock intake, use a non-computer carb, and use the stock air cleaner. Has anyone done that?

Some say the 2101 is a square bore and the 1406 is a spread bore, while those who use the 2701 say it's a spread bore and made for the 1406. The 2101 has two mounting holes at each corner, and appears adaptable to both spread and square carbs. The 2701 has only one mounting pattern. Most likely, if I end up going with the Edelbrock intake and carb, I'll go with the Edelbrock recommendation. 2101/1406.
I know it best to have a lockup on the converter, but apparently, with the 350C trans, it won't be that big of deal. Maybe some MPG loss. Eventually, per the local trans shop, they say that they can modify the trans to hydraulically lock up, or I'll swap to a regular 350, or 2004R.

why not a 80-older q-jet and existing manifold? you know it fits.

Ive been looking for an 80 rebuildable q-jet and can't find one. I'm in north Idaho and if I found one, would send it to Lars in Colorado for rebuild. I'm running out of time, and have to get this done soon.

2101 is a universal intake ... primarily for Qjet (SpreadBore) ... but also fits (less than ideally) square bore carb.
2701 EPS fits only SquareBore.
I've seen several posts here recently where 2701 C3 owners say their 2701 fits their C3 hood with SquareBore carb.
As above / DD, ... you know OE intake fits under your hood and fits a Qjet.

Yes, I know the original intake fits with a Qjet. I've checked the Qjet mentioned in Gunfighter post from Rock Auto/UREMCO. I also read a paper from Lars about commercial rebuilds and he says that they are messed up. I'd like to use stock intake, non-ECM carb, and air cleaner for this swap. I'd like to find a suitable 76-80 rebuildable Qjet and send it to Lars, but haven't found one that looks suitable, or has the right part #.
Based on reviews and comments from many, it's really a gamble. No matter what, some say great/no problems, while other say avoid/problems about the same stuff.

If your looking for a core only to send to lars, a quick search of Craigslist:

I have had multiple Edelbrock carbs on my 81 starting with a 500, then 650AVS and now a 800AVS2. Currently with a Weiand Warrior intake and a drop base air cleaner. Carb has dual feed with banjo - required for drop base air cleaner. Also had to dimple the base of the air cleaner to clear the choke - no biggie. Fits with about 1/2" clearance on my stock hood.
I can take a pic of the air cleaner base if you want.
