Fuel Gauge Oddity?

My fuel gauge has not worked since I bought the car. I was attempting a stereo install and had the gauge cluster out and thought I'd check the gauge out. So, armed with the Wilcox printout on how to check the gauge, I noticed this:

I was completely confused when I did not see a 3rd wire.... am I simply missing a ground wire? I know the connection tabs need cleaning up, but my first thought is I am missing the 3rd wire, and I'm thinking ground. Also, note there is no resistor so it appears to be a newer gauge. Help!

gauge assembly, gauge testing and wiring which looks correct in your picture

the whole gauge console acts as the ground. I had to run a seperate grouund from the bezel to the dash birdcage frame

Thanks, you "rescued" this thread...lol. I have a copy of something from Wilcox, but not what you link.
