Default Question on q-jet parts compatibility...

Say I have two q-jets, both are 78 carbs.

I got the tune-up kit, float, and pull-off for carb A. When I took a look at carb A, I noticed a good solid chunk of it had broken off the base (where one of the four bolts bolts to the intake manifold.) Any repair would obviously just lead to vacuum hell, so I don't think I wanna take my chances. However, having spent the money for this carb kit a good couple months ago, I don't think I could return it. Could I use carb B which is structurally sound, with the jets, power piston, spring and other equipment out of carb A, along with the tune up kit, to rebuild carb B? Or do I have to go get a new tune-up kit?

Summary: Carb A has the jets, springs, power piston, tune up kit, choke pull off, and new float.
Carb B needs to be rebuilt. Holley rebuild.

Can I rebuild carb B with the stuff I have for carb A?

17058228 has all the parts...

17059222 is in good shape.

I have kit 2-5795A, which is for the 8228 carb. Can I use in the 9222?

-Steve
*edit* Yeah, I was wrong. One's a 79 and one's a 78.

Beware that the Q-jet rebuilt by holley most likely has the power piston pin clipped.. This will result in poor throttle response as well as poor drivability. Holley should stick to making their own carbs.

Yep. I read that. They circumcize the power piston. :)

I'm going to take the good piston out of the 8228.
