Default ‘69 Parking Light Issues

Having issues with the drivers side parking light. The turn signal works as it should, as long as no other lights are on. Figured it be related to a bad ground, but I’m having trouble finding the ground. Used a test light to figure out which wire was which, but was really only getting a signal from the blinker wire. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am a total novice when it comes to electrical!

Are you referring to both the front and back lights and the side markers?

Just the front light on the driver’s side, the side markers work fine.

Have you looked at the more typical causes on these cars yet?

1. Dual filament bulb...one side could be burnt out and other OK.

2. Connections corroded in the socket...clean out with some light sandpaper and clean the bulb also. Make sure bulb is inserted correctly and tight.

3. If the turn signal light works good then likely the ground is not an issue as both filaments use the same ground connection. Could be a broken wire behind the fixture for the parking light.

Having the schematic for your 1969 car and a volt meter will help track this down...on my 1968 the color codes are as follows: Black = common filament ground, Lt Blue = Direction Signal, Brown = Parking.

The light sockets corrode inside the plastic.
Attach a wire to a good ground and touch the other end to the brass part of the bulb holder, if the lights work ok then the socket needs to be replaced.

The government runs wire is black and has a screw going into either the frame or the Radiator support. If you pull the grill out you can see the wiring and be able to trace the ground wire...I would eliminate the bulb as an issue and disconnect the ground from the frame , clean both surfaces and reinstall it
