I bought a 1983 gmc pickup at a police auction. I can't find any numbers on the engine but there is a tag glued on the driver's side of the block and I can't figure our what numbers mean on it. I replace the transmission and got the block numbers off the engine at that time. They are 3932386 which appears to be a L46 out of a 69 corvette. I have the matching engine, 700r4 transmission and Rochrster carb I think. Anyone out there know how to tell if they are matching numbers. Is there a market for this engine or is it just another engine?

These blocks were cast primarily in 68 and 69. They came in both 2 bolt and 4 bolt configurations. The 4 bolt blocks had the 2482 nodular mains
and were used in the early L46, DZ 302, as well as some heavy duty truck applications. If you have a 4 bolt that is at or close to standard bore then yes, it has some value over and above your average sbc block. I believe many of these 4 bolt blocks were paired with the 1182 forged crankshaft in the 350 application as well.
Anyone could have glued any type of tag to the block , but the back of the block has a casting number that will tell some clues. The 700R4 wasn't built in the same decade even. I guess all that can be proved is the originality of the carb by it's stamped number - if genuine.
I know this thread is from Dec but I had to put my 2 cents in usually when you have a tag glued to the block means it’s a reman block and the tag is there for the warranty .. if it melts off from overheating the motor they won’t honor the warranty lots of reman company’s use this method
