Need advice on used interior trim: Am I spending too much ?
There is a decent set of original black interior trim on Ebay.
I pretty much need all the stuff that is in the lot:
pillar trim (2), WS header trim, Ttop bar trim, rear roof trim (2), and bottom
rear trim. Also, they are black - good to go in my car.
The lot of these is currently at $86, thanks to my bids pushing someone
closer to their proxy bid.
Another lot (all bright red) includes the door panels, three dash pieces, 1/4
panels ... currently at $76.
I'm leaning toward the first lot mentioned - even though I need door panels.
How high would you go on these used interior parts (look to be very good
condition from photos) ? I didn't really want to go over $100.
Whaddaya think ? or

Dave,
Either sounds good. As I'm sure you know, those parts new are very expensive. There are kits that you can get to make minor repairs to any blemishes they may have (but hopefully don't). The color can be changed. My interior used to be Saddle and is now a light cream. Do the best you can to verify color, content, and condition of the parts you bid on. But I think you have more to gain than to lose by getting it.

Not bad, Chuck.
You addressed three of my concerns in about two sentences.
The red stuff is scaring me away due to color. I know it can be dyed black,
but the door panels take enough wear that I'm afraid that I'll be re-doing
them each year (red showing through). A roof panel is not an issue here.
Although - maybe I'm starting to consider a red interior ..... Ok over that - staying black.
I'm gonna go back and see where the black interior is selling.
The pictures look great, but I still need to convince myself a bit more.
Has anyone bought pieces like this from forum members/Gary Gruhala/ bone yard ? How much did you pay there ?
Thanks for all replies. :seeya

OK - now it's just gone too high for me - I think. I didn't want to spend this much. They look nice, but that's not my price.
The reserve is not met yet, and the price of these used pieces at $160+ ??

Dave, AFAIK, Gruhala is fine...no problems, nothing major anyway....
I think the price is super fair...assuming it's not dried out southern/western parts....ready to crack vinyl.....
try buying new....spend a grand easy, and not have the dash pieces yet....

Dave
I recently replaced almost my entire interior and the parts you mentioned easily cost me about 800 bucks, if its in fair shape the black interior dye from Midamerica works well.

So did you get these parts? $250 is not a bad deal. If not go for the red if they are still available.
I dyed these parts tan to black and they came out looking great and running my fingernails over the parts does not even scratch the dye. you pretty much have to use a metal object-screwdriver to gouge the part to scratch the dye, but then you would also damage the part.

I didn't go for it.
I posted the link - in case any other forum members wanted a stab at it.
$250 is a fair price for good originals. I don't think that the pieces in this
lot would have added to $800 new. I just don't have that much disposable
income right after Christmas. Plus, I don't need it right away. Similar sets
will come along, eventually. Maybe I will be motivated to try restoring some
of my pieces. I definitely will need pillar pieces and the rear roof trim for the
pop-out window - that's what caught my eye here.

Your right Dave..after looking through my reciepts it was about 600. But still next time I'll try the dye first, Repro parts are no were close to original.
