Default Dufus, Bubba's cousin installed this rear main seal.

Check these pics please, is the rear main seal installed correctly? I know the pics are a little blurry but I wanted to get as close as I could. I think it's back ****-wards!

Hey! It was his first attempt at a rear seal. :D There was a 50-50 chance & I picked the wrong one! :D

NO question the lip is wrong....thing is, the backing rubber section seems to look as if it fits correctly, in preferance to it being turned around.....

have to see it the other way....allmost strikes me as if the seal is not made right.....

Yup, the lip should face towards the block. This one is installed wrong. If you install a new one, rotate the seals so that the seam where the 2 halves meet up don't align with the cap and block seam.
As for the thicker part of the seal being on the inside of the block here (and outside if it's correctly installed), they're all like that. The side w/ the lip is thinner than the other side.

Don't think it would've sealed. It's on the block I've been working on.

You & the others think right. It's backwards. The lip should point toward the motor.

Maybe the block is just upside down...
