sector gear and rack

I changed out the sector gear and rack on my 77 tilt-tele. In theory I suppose you could do it in the car. Everything you need to take off should pull out toward you if you're sitting in the driver seat. But I question whether you'd have enough elbow room to do it without damaging dash or console, because the rack and sector are on the passenger side of the column. Tight quarters to try to do very fussy work.
I'd take it out and do it on the bench.Pulling it takes 10 minutes. You'll thank yourself later.
