Re: Fancy paint jobs. (QuickVet)
I met vetteflame79 last October at a show, he has a sweet paint job. I vote for the white/pearl ghost flames like on the Z28 pic.
Here's a pic of vetteflame79's car;

Re: Fancy paint jobs. (QuickVet)
here are some from a local shop:
ghost hash marks
I knew this guy. he was a *****, but his paint looked pretty good.
You know why i like this one :D
I actually worked with this guy when i was installing car audio/video. he was a really cool guy but he was very displeased with the job these guys did. if you looked hard the stripes were off, not perfectly straight, and the roof didnt match the hood/trunk. but he got everything done for $600. not bad. he had the saleen bodykit painted and isntalled as well as the stripes painted. the bad part about the stripes, was there is blue pearl in them but not nearly enough. they dont "Flash" which is the effect pearl does. its very hard to notice the blue pearl in the stripes. looks good otherwise.

I have my paint all figured out, now to get the body back together and save some $$.
I'm going to paint black with some ghost flames - kinda like vetteflame79,
but ghosted and not so much flames. He's got 'em all the way up the hood.
My ghost flames will be done with a two-tone color changing pearl (red/gold).
This paint is mucho expensivo - $400 a pint. A pint should do all the ghost flames
that I intend.
First, I will be doing a standard base/clear. Later, after the clear cures,
I will be going back to do the flame work - then one more clear layer.
I may only get to the base/clear this summer - but that is the plan.
BTW - check out this site that Roger (vetteflame79) had his paint done at.
They have How-To pages, a forum, etc. You can even download patterns
to practic your flame drawing with.

Here is a good pic of my vette that shows the pearl effect:
now my color was 1/4 pearl so most pearl jobs wont "Flash" that much. (flash is what they call the pearl effect) see how the top of the hood is dark orange, the side of the hood is bright orange, and the side of the car is almost yellow? look right under the window and you can see it has quite a few diffrent colors in it. my vette looks copper at night under lights, so pearl can drastically change a cars color. im almost positive that Vetteflame79's are kandy flames after comparing the two.
You can achive a multi-color change with pearl (red/Gold) but pearl is a paint additive. it is a fine powder that you add to the paint. it used to be scraped off oyster shells hence the name pearl. i think its synthetically made now though. if you go to a local paint dealer, ask for an ounce of pearl (red/blue/white/ even black) and dip your finger in the powder. hold your finger up to the light and move it arround, you can see exactly what the Flash looks like. you could sprinkle it on your car if you wanted and see how it would change it, but it dosent react the same. it needs to be in the paint or clear coat to be perfect.
