Default Tremec 3550 and TKO owners.....

I've got a question. I have been communicating with another forum member via e-mail regarding the TR-3550. He asked me if the Tranny I purchased came with an adapter plate similar to the one that is indicated on Forte's Website.

He was wondering if this adapter was required - I assume it is not as my tranny did not ship with any kind of adapter - however much of the installed photos on the site above seem to show some form of adapter.

So the question to the collective members who have already installed one is - "Is there an adapter between the trans and the bellhousing" or not?

On the "GM version" of the 3550 and TKO that forte, hanlon and others sell, no adapter plate is used. The mounting holes on the tranny are re-drilled to fit a GM bellhousing. They also replace the input shaft with a GM 26 spline shaft.

:iagree: Markus is right on with this one. I think the tremec 6spd may have an adaptor, by my TKO bolted right to the bellhousing.

BTW, check hanlon motorsports. They had the lowest prices last I checked.

Try Swarr Auto. Less than Hanlons, cheaper shipping, and faster service!

SmokedTires,

I am interested in this Tremec TKO. A couple of questions

Did you have to mount the shifter in the middle of the tranny?
Did you have to modify your console to accommodate the 5-speed shifter?
What shifter did you choose?

The shifter mounts in the middle of the tranny.. It's a internal rail shifter.. My mechanic welded a bracket on the shifter to space the shifter to the correct location.. I used a shifter + handle that I bought from a Mustang site...Any Mustang shifter handle + **** will fit...

Olivier
Hows about measuring your driveshaft length for me??? Your the only one I know who has the mark williams yoke. It looks like the Fortes yoke is a little longer than the Mark Williams job. If I can get my driveshaft cut this week, I can put the engine in on saturday :smash: :smash: :smash:

Thanks
Chris
