Default My new HEAVY DUTY Posi unit...

in my rebuilt differential is the AUBURN GEAR Heavy Duty unit... It's supposed to be much stronger than stock... Stock posi cases tend to crack and can cause severe damage...

Thanks Oliver. I had an idea this was the one and I have heard it is a good unit. Yes it is already in and running. Now 11s are just around the corner

Art at Van Steel told me that it is the best unit that's relatively affordable... Stronger setups than this one are big $$$$

I used my old 3.73 gears.. They were in good shape and not worn... I always thought that I had 3.55 gears before I had the differential rebuilt... I love my 3.73 rear in combination with the 3.27 first gear...
1.591 60' time.... do I have to say more...

Sounds really cool. You have had a lot of broken parts lately. Life will be really cool when it's running well.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble

Just go to this site and read at the bottom of the page. Years ago I thought that I was upgrading when a shop installed a poopie Auburn. It didn't last a year with 10X28 slicks and street driving. That's when I found Toms and I use the #6 with the larger cross shaft and it's been in with my 383 for nearly 20,000 bad miles

Finally - all of the critical parts (exept half shafts) are new or rebuilt... Most of them are actually better than stock...

Well - you are road racing... That's a lot more abuse than my occasional trips to the drag strip... As soon as I hit 11's I will stop racing my 68 anyway...

I have heard that Auburn is now making 2 different carriers. One standard and one heavy duty. The standard one is on the level of the stock C3 unit the heavy duty unit is a much beefier unit. This is only what I hear not any experience with them.

Gordon, I have a 4.11 with the Pro Series Auburn, and it's the only one that Auburn sells for the C3 differential. They also have a standard car line, but not for the Vette. The 4 series unit that I have includes a ring gear spacer, pretty cheezy...

The biggest difference that I've noticed with the Auburn is that it's not rebuildable, but Auburn now offers an affordable trade-in policy, so that's not as big a problem as it used to be. In use, it performs as well as the stock GM posi did. I don't really expect it to be as strong as a GM unit, mainly because you usually get what you pay for, and this thing was cheap!

As soon as I hit 11's I will stop racing my 68 anyway...

Never Happen :D

That's what I said to every one and myself.....Once you get into the 11's you'll want more....It becomes a bad habit you can't break.
You'll go nuts thinking about all that power you have under the hood....and start thinking if I could only make one more run.....I could get this thing deeper into the 11's or maybe 10's..... :D :seeya Cappy

If I would have a coupe - I would continue racing and put a cage into the car.. However - a NHRA approved cage would destroy the looks of the car. I don't want a cage in my Vette and they won't let me race again if I don't put a cage into the car.... I won't stop drag racing.. I just will get another car to race and the 68' will be a cruiser...

Olivier
