Default Wow! A matching number L88 on ebay with a low reserve-Better jump quick

This car is even rarer than "other" L88's as it has the L88 long hood which omits the wiper door cover. My Sears catalog says that GM only made 2 of these and that this one is the sole survivor.

At least it runs. I guess that makes it worth more than my car.

Hi
Wow, it got the L88 6.500 red limit tach .
Must be an L88, as all other such tach cars had tri-carbs.
This car looks to be in similar state as my one was when I bought it.
This means lots of work, lots of hidden problems, but drivebale.
Might buy it if it doesn't move of the 1000 K mark.

Yeah, and the guy I bought my '70 from told me "as far as I know, everything is original". :lolg: :lolg:

Check out the fuel line running over the headers! And what's with the no-element air cleaner!
Hey, where's Grandsport??? Maybe he could go over & check it out.....oh never mind, he'd probably buy it! :yesnod: :yesnod:

I'd buy it if the price was right.

Well if I was close to Miami I'd go have a look just for the helluvit. There've been stranger cars turn up, like the "usta be a ZL1 Camaro" that I passed on for 3800 with no drivetrain, that turned out to be real and recently sold, totally done with the original motor back in the car for $200 thousand.

My 69 L88 was recovered from a guy who had no idea what it was, and had I not had the original Vin # from the original local owner and gone looking, it may or may not ever have surfaced.

Just like any good car detective, I don't eliminate any suspects until it's proven that they're not guilty.

One other interesting tidbit about that car, unless the picture is foolin' me is that the antenna hole looks to be in the wrong spot. Now since L88's were mandatory radio delete, and that car has obviously got an aftermarket one in the dash with a power antenna, wouldn't somebody have just shoved the antenna in the factory hole instead of moving it..............if there was a factory hole? Doesn't prove anything, but just something to look for.

My car has a damn repaired hole in the decklid because the original owner had a factory radio installed within days of getting the car. He also had a fan shroud installed.

If somebody goes lookin', that car has to have an M22 transmission if it's supposed to be the original, J56 brakes plus all the stuff a 435 would've had. The radiator core support would be different from all the other big blocks or small blocks also, and the radiator would visually resemble the small block aluminum radiator, although it's probably long gone. When I found my car it still had the L88 core support and radiator.

Solidlifters, you definitely make some good points and stranger things have happened but I would love to see the stamp pad and other stampings ie. trans, diff, etc. I would be very surprised if the car did end up being the real thing and it would be one heck of a find as well

I was actually taking into consideration that the original engine is probably long gone. I believe that there are very few L88's left with THE original motor. Mine has tons of documentation and is a known local car, but the original owner, who's still around here pulled the L88 when the car was about a year old and stuck an LS7 crate motor in the car. There's always a chance that it'll turn up around here somewhere, but every year that passes lessens the possibility. If it did in fact prove to be an original L88 it'd be worth buying if somebody had to stick a correct replacement motor in it. 2 of my L89's were bought without motors. There's still a relatively cold trail on finding one of them and the other is all but hopeless, but with documentation, they still have excellent value.

:iagree: I invested in a well documented 1970 LT-1 with only a handful of original or matching engine parts. Short of the block stamp, a well documented car could be returned to "numbers matching as many of the proper parts are still available.

Bob, in 67 they were mandatory heater delete, in 68/69 the heater was std. although they could be ordered heater delete.

Edit: one of these days I'm gonna post something without finding a spelling error after it's posted.

The 67s were heater delete cars. The 68/9s however were equipped with heaters.

It's already too expensive... Check out the air filter... Well - the filter element is missing.. If he ran the car like that for a while.. he must have sucked a lot of stuff into the engine...

On a second thought.. if the car really is a matching numbers big block - it might be worth even more... Well - I'm 100% certain that it isn't a L-88... but a matching numbers big block vert could be worth some money.. However -lots of work will be necessary to put this car back to original... Lots of wrong parts...

What would signify it as an original L88? Is there a VIN indication on a 68????
It's obviously got a bunch of non-original parts (intake, carb, goofy front spoiler, etc.), but it would seem for a 68, L-88 Roadster a cheap price...Not bad for a running, driving big-block either...I see the usual e-bay lines...I was told original, I believe #'s matching, etc., but I don't see where this guy is so far off??? Am I missing something?

btw, I saw a 71 Hemi Cuda Convertible yesterday that was bid to $800,000 + and did not meet reserve yet...I realize it's 1 of 7 or so, but that seemed nuts to me.
