Default Can anyone help to identify this part..? I found this when I opened up the motor

Just thought I'd share with you all. Fortunately the motor is running again, three cylinder sleeves later. Plus, some other go fast parts went into the rebuild. Any other horror stories that anyone would like to share with the rest of us...????

What's the worst that has happened to your engine?
:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Are you sure that isn't a Ford piston, it looks a lot like one I saw that came out of 5.0 'rustang after a 300 shot of NOS!
Wow! that is one seriously messed up piston and rod! About the only thing that could be worse would be for you to tell us that it's a cam shaft! :D

Dayumage. Running the poo out of it, no doubt. This is always one of my fears after having spent so long with no motor in the car. I am just taking it easy on it right now. :D

I have a few blown pistons but nothing as good as that. What destroyed the piston and rod that badly?

I have NEVER seen a flux capacitor so badly damaged by static discharge.
You're gonna need a new one, me thinks.

BTW - what kind of sound does it make when a piston lets go like that ?
No - never mind - I don't ever want to know.

Happened while driving 70mph on the e-way. No big bang, just a little noise and so much smoke I couldn't see to pull over to the side of the road.

Can't say exactly what caused the damage, but I beleive it was a valve that hit the piston. Also found a short piece of the valve stem embedded in the head, like it was shot from a gun. Number 5 cylinder wall was completely gone. Fortunately the bottom end was okay. Everything is back together now and I'm dying to get back on the road in spring.

Sounds like a valve spring broke and dropped the vale into the cylinder.

Thought pistons/rods where part of the 'bottom end'? I would think with that much damage your crank might be bent if it is cast. I had a piston completely shatter leaving just the rod and pin in the cylinder with two long narrow holes in the sleeve where the pin dug into it.
