The AFR 383 Project: Series 0
I am in the process of building up a roller cam Airflow Research based 383 for my '74. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a documented process and part numbers/prices for all components used and expenses in the buildup. Everything would be documented with pictures and updated fairly frequently. There will most likely be many things learned along the way and I would like to share them with anyone whos willing to teach and or learn along the way. This upgrade includes redoing the fuel system from the tank forward using an electric pump, adding electric fans, high stall torque converter and a 500+hp 383. Please take a moment to vote, if there is interest in the project I am willing to put the time into it to share.

Any suggestions as to go about this would be welcome! :yesnod:

It's always helpful to read about someone elses experiences. If you are willing to put forth that effort I'm sure many others will benefit from it.

Yeah! Good idea.
I´m planning to do the same.
AFR190 or 195 heads, X-treme energy cam (solid) from Comp.cams, heavy duty rotating assembly and we´re over 500 HP ! (and 500 ftlbs!!)
My project won´t start as soon as yours though, but your work would be a great guide beside all my books.
I say Go for it!!

Thanks, the forum has been a great source of information for me, I would like to be able to share just a little myself.

The only issue I am having with the AFR heads is the ability to get a BARE pair with the CNC work...I do not want to use their pre assembled heads as I would like to do this myself and add a few finishing touches to the heads. The Dart Pro1's are looking more and more attractive for this reason.
I spent some time talking to my machinist and i'm working out the details and making sure a fit plan is in place. :yesnod: I will most likely build a website somewhat similiar to Merlin's for record keeping.

Thanks, I hope you'll be happy with how I approach it. Is the grill on your 74 a photoshop job, or did you have that made, looks

High 11's just not good enough for you, huh?
I have already "started" as I have been collecting parts for a couple months now, I'm still sorting out a few things, but when its go time it will be coming together fairly fast. I am going to talk to my machinist about over seeing all the work with a camera in hand. I will be assembling everything, and may opt to produce a step-by-step guide on assembly for those who want to do something similar in their garages. I'm working things around my business and full time school, so there may be some long pauses in progress, but completion date is around the end of May. I am going to have some questions for you regarding the drivetrain. Stay tuned. :reddevil

Thanks, will do.
