Default A/C Restore

Hello,

Hoping for some recommendations on aftermarket A/C parts for my 72 coupe. The previous owner deleted everything A/C related forward of the evaporator box. Surprisingly, I found a new evaporator when I pulled it out so I assume the PO was planning to restore the A/C parts in the engine bay at some point. Who knows??? Based on the block stamp the motor is from a 74 and has been rebuilt with a somewhat minimalist approach in that all unnecessary brackets, pulleys, clamps etc. have been deleted. He fitted Flotek heads, aluminum manifold and Holley carb but the exhaust manifold appears stock. There is a three core aluminum radiator added and original radiator supply / expansion tanks have been deleted. I mention these modifications to illustrate that the car has a resto-mod engine not a restored engine and therefore trying restore the A/C based on 100% original parts or OEM reproductions seems a little pointless and unnecessarily expensive. My goal is to restore viable air conditioning using everything OEM inboard of the evaporator (these are all new) but lower cost aftermarket parts in the engine bay.

So, after that rambling introduction, I'm hoping for help with recommendations for aftermarket A/C components, specifically the the big ticket items such as;

- Compressor
- Condenser
- Compressor Brackets
- Muffler assembly and hoses

Also interested if there are alternatives to the expensive OEM plumbing, such as the tubing, POA valve, expansion valve, and drier receiver, etc. (I'm not interested in the complete kits as as those from Vintage Air).

I realize this is a big ask for a forum post and greatly appreciate any insights.

A number of people have purchased the entire HVAC System from Vintage Air with reported good outcomes. Their system uses the existing OEM Controls, I have read some issues with the ductwork, so you would be wise to invest some time reading different members posts to learn what they did. The system comes with all components. Good Luck.

Search for 'VIR Eliminator" that will turn your system into a modern cycle switch system.
Buy a modern leak free Sanden compressor, with rear outlets.
Compressor Bracket kit for the Sanden.
You may need custom hoses.
R134.
Done.
