73 vin sticker info...?
Hi guys! I am trying to find out the vin sticker information for a 73 Convertible. Specificaly the GVWR and the GAWR (front & rear). Some bone head tore mine off (and took it) at the last cruise we had. Man I hate it when people do not respect another persons property.
Thanks,
Matt
Thanks,
Matt

Re: 73 vin sticker info...? (MLTexas)
Here are the key numbers on mine:
GVWR 4119 GAWR FRT 1962 REAR 2167
On the top, after the Mfg by is the build date, in my case 09/72
At the bottom, centered is the VIN with "PASSANGER CAR" centered below it.
That is for a 73 Conv, L82, auto, with PS, PB, PW, Am/FM Stereo. You can adjust weights for yours by using the numbers at: http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/vette73/S_WEIGHT.htm

Thanks for the numbers guys! I'm still trying to get them to add up.
Roscoe - check your email regarding your 73 Vert 4-speed car.
Thanks,
Matt

Man, I feel more lost than before. Have patience with me guys!
Tom - OK then, if Roscoe's (Thanks for the email!) numbers are GVWR 4108
GAWR Front 1933 Rear 2175 and the only thing he has different that came with his car is the PB and aux. hard top what would my numbers be. Man, I feel like an idiot trying to figure this out :banghead: .... It can't be this hard!
Thanks,
Matt

Re: 73 vin sticker info...? (MLTexas)
Sorry, but I cannot answer that one. Have no idea how they figure what the Gross is. Believe that mine and yours are basicly the same except for the transmission, right? (Conv, L82, PS, PB, Pw, Am/Fm Stereo) The 4-speed is 54 pounds lighter then the automatic. So take 54 off of the weight of mine and that should give you 4,065 Gross weight for yours. But, if we are looking at Gross weight a passangers and cargo then should not all the cars have the same gross weight. If your car is 54 pounds lighter, then couldn't you carry 54 more pounds of cargo???? Now I am getting myself confused

Tom - no, I do not have PB either. Thanks for trying to help!
I will try JohnZ to see if he can shed the missing light.

Tom - to make it worse, when you start with a gross number and subtract do you evenly deduct from the Axle weights as well to get the front and rear?

Here is another thought and one more element to figure into the calculation: the springs. Stronger/stiffer springs will allow for a higher Gross weight.
Got this from Joe Lucia over on the NCRS board:
"The GVW rating of a vehicle is affected by several factors. One of the most important is the installed springs. For any given year, several different springs, particularly front coil springs, could have been installed in a car depending upon the installed options in that car. Beginning in the later 70s quite a few different front springs could have been used depending upon installed options. "
Looks as if you are going to have to find one equiped the same as yours and get their numbers :( But of course if you used numbers that were close, no one would ever know the difference.

One additional piece of info that I was just made aware of, if you have your tank sticker, the numbers are also on there.
