Default Am I getting BS'ed on my paint Job?

I've got a '78 in the body shop, And I was quoted 5k for the job.
The color scheme I wanted is blue on top, silver on bottom (both metalic)
Now I'm getting a fudging on the colors from the body shop.

Reasons (or excuses) are:
Dark color fades in the sun faster.
Shows up waves on the body, has to be sanded down more.
cant get a stripe kit to match it.

Well, the body guy has done a great job sanding so far,
I even took a flashlight and layed it against the body to see if any
shadows were cast, and I cant find anything that would show a wave.
I can't see were it would need to be sanded anymore.

Stripe Kit? Am I wrong in assuming, that for 5k, paint the stripes if need be?
I live in NC so this price is on the higher end of the scale for around here.

Fading?...Got a garage, and it's gonna be a weekend car.

Now the shop is known for it's Vette work, and I've heard no other complaints
other than being kinda pricey.

But still, for 5k, I don't think I should get a lot of flak for the colors I want.

Are they giving me the benefit of experiance, or am I getting yanked?
I sure would appreciate some insight on this.

fading - somewhat true, but thats not there problem, its your car and your $5k.
Waves- definetly true, but I would not pay more than $3k for a paint job, and at that price, it better not have any waves in it....

IMO, you can't see the waves in the primer, thats why you block and reprime, to show the waves up.

You have a legit complaint IMO.

Its this simple, for 5k you get what you want how you want. If they have professional suggestions thats fine, you can consider them.

It sounds like he's trying to maximize his profits. Yes dark colors will show waves more than light colors but all that is required to fix that is to prime and sand the car until there are no waves, which is labor and cost intensive. Dark colors will fade more than light but that's not his problem, it's yours. Tape stripes are cheaper than painted stripes. If you paint stripes and you want them to last you have to clearcoat the car after they are applied. If they are just done with a striping enamel they will wear off eventually. Clearcoating after the painted stripes costs more money. As far as the costs go if he's paying 1K for the materials he's got about 4K profit to work with. That comes out to 100 hours at $40 an hour. If he can save half of that time he's making $80 an hour. Like I said it sounds like he's trying to maximize his profits. Not a bad thing to do within reason but he should keep his customer happy too.

You were quoted a price for colours and pinstriping that you wanted. I assume you signed a contract at a fixed price. No fudging room.
