How much gear oil in a Muncie?
I've got my M-21 lying on the floor and want to replace the gear oil in it. I've already drained it last night but I don't know how much to put back in it. The service book says until it reaches the plug but I don't have the tranny in the car and want to just fill it from the side cover.
Anybody know how much it takes.
Also, I was going to use Mobil 1 Synthetic gear oil. Anybody have any complaints from Mobil 1 or better suggestions?
Thanks.

I think I used about 2 bottles of the mobile 1 and I have no complaints. Shifts easier than it did before, not sure if thats because of the fluid or the rebuild. Either way, I'm happy :steering: :D

1 1/2 to 2 quarts sounds right. Its been over 2 years since I changed mine. I would still check level at the fill hole before putting it back on the road.
I think some have experienced leaks they didn't have before with synthetics. Try it, if it leaks switch back.

I've been told more then once, to be careful using Mobil 1 in older cars. It can leak past gaskets and seals. A newer car or rebuilds, Yes. I'm doing mine and will go with dino-oil, unless this forum changes my mind.

I use 90wt gear oil. Should be under 2 qts.
