Rich fuel mixture, Need help
I have a Carter AFB installed on my 71 454. When idleing I get a raw gas and rich mixture smell. I have leaned out the carb but it still seems to be there. Car runs great off Idle. Any suggestions where I should look or should I just junk the AFB and go with another carb.

WOW, Thats a lot of engine for an AFB. Try this. Take the caps off of the power valves and clean the bore and the pistons good with light emory or sand paper. Readjust the Idle screws.

I'm not too familiar with the Carter AFB, but I just got through with the same problem on my Triumph TR3, and the first place to look after doing what wombvette said is to make sure the choke is returning properly...my choke was stuck open.

I have the same problem with my 650 DP Holley on a sb 350???? :steering:
