I've run into trouble with the outward mount serpentine conversion kit I bought for my '76. The corvette water pump "short" is apparently different than the standard "short" pump AND the saginaw P/S pump isn't fitting into the supplied bracket.
I've decided to chuck the outward mount conversion in favor of the March "Ultra" front mount conversion with long water pump. Any interest in a new corvette water pump?
My question other than looking for any suggestions on disadvantages of the front mount arrangement is...do I go with the "high-flow" set-up for "increased" cooling OR the "performance" set-up saving 12 hp? Is the high-flow necessary for South Florida driving?
383 Stroker...10.5:1...8000 rpms...Aluminum radiator with flexlite dual electric fans...no A/C
MY only comment on this type of stuff after decades of hotrodding....
these situations are best handled by stock C4 stuff...it fits, and works fine...you want fancy??? add MONEY!!!!
and time and effort where all the fancy dan aftermarket types sit there and scratch their collective as ses wondering what the answers are.....
Personally, I like to take the safe road. I'm not sure you would actually be saving 12hp anyway. I'd go with the high flow to be safe, expecially with that beautiful hot southern fla weather.
Just use an underdrive pulley. I would think that the water pump would cavitate at high RPMs. I'd just put an electric water pump on and not worry if you really go to 8000rpms.
