Default Paint question.

How hard would it be to touch up a few bad spots on the front end just under the drivers side headlight? What about a golf ball sized paint chip on the right front fender? I'm thinking about trying to touch up the bad spots in the paint until I get the money to get the whole car repainted.

(pics of the bad spots to come soon, need to charge the batteries for my digital camera and then I can snap a few pics)

You can buy the exact factory paint from an automotive paint store. Then, it's sand, prime and blend paint as best you can. The trouble is however....that it looks like your paint is actually peeling. If this is the case, the paint job was done incorrectly. Paint should never come off in "chunks" like it is on your car. This usually means the prep work was done incorrectly. I hope I'm wrong. You can test this yourself by getting some masking tape and pressing it down hard....and then ripping it off. If ANY paint comes off, the paint job wasn't done right.

As Fontking stated, your paint is not adhering and any touch up would look only slightly better. If you do have to touch up at this time I would spray the paint versus brush touch up. If you have access to a compressor and spray gun you could at least make it white again. If you do not have the equipment you can go to a paint store that fills spray cans and have the correct color mixed and put in an aerosol can and then you can spray it on. Either way it is not going to be pretty. Start saving for that strip and paint job. Craig

I have wondered the same thing. Can you buy "pre-mixed" paint? Has anyone used those aersol sprayers you mount to a glass jar?

Last time I went into an auto paint store, they told me they could mix up my color (red for my Jeep) and I could buy several aerosol cans of it. I guess they put it in the cans and pressurize them right there...

Sorry I can't remember the brand name of the store.

Try these guys out http://www.paintworldinc.com/. I bought an aerosol can for my RX300 and it was a perfect match. I noticed that the years only go back to 1980 but when I didn’t see my paint code on their website I called and they mixed it for me and it still only cost $15 something. I find it great for small projects, I don’t have to get my spray guns out, mix paint and then have to clean up.
