Is this just a terrific coincidence, or is something fishy?

As many have suggested before, it is scary to think of how many fakes there are out there. :(
Both have documentation, if it can be determined that the docs are as old as the cars and they haven't been "restored" as well, than this may indeed be 2 of the 188's

It is a bit strange... both out of New York too. If they are up to snuff they are two fine vettes. The automatic with an opening bid of $50,000 will never see a bid either way.

Nothing fishy about 2 being for sale at the same time. Both look like very nice cars! I remember at one point (a few years back) between Proteam and Hemmings I counted about 10 LS6 cars for sale! Just checked, and surprisingly Proteam doesn't have any, and Hemmings has one LS-6 and one ZR2.. (asking $325k!!!) MJ
hmmm... one has chrome valve covers, the other is painted. Which way is "correct"? :) MJ

This car belongs to my friend and I am listing it for him. :bs:
Why does this "seller" have to list for a friend
It seems on e bay a lot of people list on "behalf of a friend". :_dupe:
If it was my car I would list it rather than relying on a friend.
Me no liking !!! :jester:

The LS-6 with the 4 speed is getting some takers with it at $25,100.00 so far.

This may sound dumb, but why does one have chrome valve covers and the other orange?

LS-6 Prices
Nothing fishy about 2 being for sale at the same time.
Agreed.

I don't think that the days of readily available LS-6 Corvettes is going to continue like that for much longer though...

Regardless, it is tough to justify that kind of money for such an obscure option when a solid 1968 or 1969 L-88 coupe can be purchased for under $100,000... And there is nothing obscure about an L-88. :)
hmmm... one has chrome valve covers, the other is painted. Which way is "correct"?

Re: LS-6 Prices (Rowdy Rat)
Rowdy Rat,
Are the chrome valve covers on a 454(let's say on a '71 LS5) aftermarket then? As in.... were all of them painted versions in '71 that came with the engine from the factory? I'm just curious as the one I have coming in has chrome valve covers.

For your 1971 LS-5 example, very early cars would have been delivered with the chrome valve covers. I have personally seen original (unrestored) 1971 cars with these valve covers. I had hoped that the NCRS Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide would have noted a serial number break when this occurred, but it does not. I did reference a credible source which claimed that the chrome valve covers were used in factory applications up through car #01500 which sounds reasonable... As such, I would think that intermittant use over the next several hundred cars could be possible as well. In any event, the chrome valve covers were quickly replaced in production with painted valve covers and continued that way until the end of big block Corvette production at the end of the 1974 model year.
The chrome plated vavle covers certainly look a lot better, but it was just another way that GM could cut production costs... Paint is certainly a lot cheaper than chrome.

I always love how the stickers on the motor are always like new. Hell, my daily drivers stickers lasted about 6 months before wrinkling. Even if it's fake a big block chrome bumper in excellent condition is worth in the $20's, right.

Re: LS-6 Prices (Rowdy Rat)
Stan,
Thanks for your time. The vette that is coming in late next week is a late production unit just like the LS-6's in the auctions above. The VIN is 194371S114493. I don't know who you can trust these days. It seems that "71corvette.com" found the vette I bought sometime(somewhere) in the past as totally something different that I am expecting. Here's the page:
http://www.71corvette.com/12001.html
(Scroll down to 14493)
From the pic at the time it was found on the internet it was white and came from the factory as Brands Hatch Green. I will be recieving it late next week painted black with all the same equipment/colors noted on that page. Makes you wonder! The internet is not that old that two different color changes would be needed and if so, why the last color would not be perfect. It's not coming to me that way.
Hmmmm!!!! E-mail about to go to the seller.

Re: LS-6 Prices (bgrice)
Barry,
Glad that I could help you out with the information.
It is generally to be expected that a 30+ year old car is going to have some changes made to it over the years. Something like a set of chrome valve covers from a previous model year are an easy way to dress a car up and not something to be too concerned about... Unless of course the car was presented to you for sale as having original valve covers.
The car looks great in the photo of the link that you posted. Perhaps the recent repaint to black is better than the previous white one? I'm sure the current owner can fill you in on the details.
In any case, enjoy the new Corvette... I hope that it exceeds all of your expectations!
Steve,
No, with the exception of the ZR-2 option, an LS-6 powered 1971 Corvette could be ordered about as "stripped" as any potential owner could want it. Most of the options that were required with earlier special high performance engines were now either standard (positraction rear axle), a no cost option (close ratio transmission), or included in the LS-6 option itself (transistorized ignition).
If the survey data is to be believed, what usually occurred was just the opposite though and most LS-6 equipped Corvettes seem to have been ordered with everything but the kitchen sink. That isn't too surprising though... An LS-6 optioned Corvette was an extremely expensive vehicle with a sticker price approaching $7,000 so the purchasers tended to be afluent people who could afford the extra cost options.
The ZR-2 cars all had power brakes in conjunction with the heavy duty brake option as in the L-88 and ZL-1 Corvettes (J-50/J-56), but as J-56 wasn't an available RPO the cost was included in the ZR-2 option.
Congratulations again on the Bloomington Gold certification... The choices that you made to address the issues from prior judging certainly paid off!

Stan, I noticed that the one LS6 does not have power brakes. I thought all LS6s were required to have power brakes like the L88s
