I replaced the stock steel rear spring with a fiber unit and now the right exhaust won't clear the wider spring. Any suggestions with replacement exhaust? I live outside Chicago and I'm looking for a good shop that will take the time to fit new exhaust right.
just wnt thru that, used midas to bend up a 74 tru dual exhaust for my 77,@ $180, i'm ahead right, well 2 trips for tweaking, non mandrel bends, then another $100 for the custom bends to hook up the dynomax super turbos ( i'm not impressed with these mufflers, way to quiet) i'd definitely try zip or ecklers systems with mandrel bends. my 2 cents
Wanted to avoid what you just described. Haven't had the car on the road since last year and I want to get it right the first time. Put too many dollars and too much time into my '70 to fuss any more. I'd order a system, but I'm sure no two are alike. I want to make sure the fiber spring is cleared and with enough room not to melt it. Thanks for the heads up!
E&R in Villa Park quoted me $600 for a full dual system manifolds back using Flow Masters. That was a welded system front to back. I decieded that was pretty stiff for pipes and mufflers and did it myself with Corvette Central pipes and DynoMax mufflers. Midas quoted me with custom bending from templates and flow masters $375 -$425. By the time I got done with the pipes, mufflers and clamps you have that into it. Plus the agrivation of on your back fighting it is not worth it. Not all Midas shops are the same. Call several and ask the manager if they have someone that has done custom work, not the new kid in the back.
As far as not clearing the new spring - yes it is tight. It is wider and the lip extends slightly past the spring bolt. You might have to rehang the system and position it differently to get it totally clear.
