Default Steering Column Lock Cable Binding! Help!

I found a NOS GM steering column lock cable for the 71 4sp, got it installed and it's binding so badly that I cannot shift in and out of Rev.
I've tried cable lube and 30 wt without much improvement.

Any ideas on how I can loosen this thing up?

Cable lube is very thin and has some graphite in it. That stuff should do it, I wouldn't use anything else because it will gum up. Try removing the cable and just keep working it and adding cable lube, it should free up. If it works freely when it's out, there may be a problem with the routing?

I had a cable in my '69... it was totally kinked up and not working.... so I removed it and never replaced it !!! No problem shifting into reverse. I never let the car out of my sight anyway...
