Default Boys, this ought to interesting....whats a perfect street 350 for our cars????

I know this will start some interesting differences! I am sure some will say the 195 stocker that came with it & some will say a overdriven 6-71 blower with huge cam. My vote goes to a 10 to 1 compression rebuild with forged crank, aftermarket rods, super mild solid roller with AFR or Profiler heads, dual plane intake & a Quadrajet. So lets hear your choices! It's rainy here & I'm bored.

Depends on who's driving it.

It's raining here too.

IMHO the ultimate cure for the common 350 is to replace it with a NOM 427. At least, that's what I ended up doing.

Could use some of that rain here; 109* index today.

Yeah, probably 20 or so. My Daughter just bought a house in Baden.

I changed my mind. A zz502 is the perfect motor.

Skunkworks, I actually have 2-79 l-82 4 speed 3.70 cars, I guess I like the style! The one I'm tinkering with now is a 50K body on resto with headers from Oklahoma. I would like to maintain some fuel economy.

The other one is a future project that I built a Dart SHP 4.125" x 3.875" 414 Cube short block. I bought a chassis with a "VB&P PERFORMANCE PLUS SYSTEM FULL KIT" & C-5 Brake Conversion. I am thinking of giving it a Baldwin Motion type paint job. A bigger project!

A zz502 has 500 hp, even more torque and the stock drive train won't handle much more than that. Plus, it idles at 700 rpm and runs on 93 octane.

Bash craft.......a triple black BBC 4 speed Ragtop...pretty badass!

I figure, if I was going to do a big street BBC C3, I would do a aftermarket block with big bore & short stroke. I think when you get into BBC C3 territory, you have to start thinking about injection merely for clearance!

I vote for an LT1 type build with modern heads, EFI, Tri-Y headers, X-pipe, and cold air intake.

If you are set on a 350 engine (no more than .030" over), what are your priorities/parameters for the car?

My 190 hp L48 was good enough for about 1 day... I installed a K&N filter first thing in '97 and am still personalizing the performance to suite my evolving tastes.

70's LT1 is what I meant.

I found some info in various books and sites around that web that says the Tri-Y design is better up to about 5500 RPM or so and that a 4 into 1 design produces more horsepower at the top end. Bottom line was that if you are racing, you need the 4 into 1. If you're primarily street driving the Tri-Y is better. Stan of Stan's Headers told me the same thing. Problem is that Stan's is the only manufacturer I could find for Tri-Y's for our C3s and they only work with straight plug heads. Mine are angled so I either have to drive 1800 miles (1 way) to have Stan build a custom set or I have to change heads.

I will build a blower engine soon but I don't have the heart to cut up my vette hood so I say go for the cubes and torque is always more fun than horsepower on the street

I want decent performance with acceptable gas mileage. I do understand that cars today have better efficiency & that gear/transmission ratios have changed. It's very unusual today to have a car without some kind of Overdrive. In suburban traffic, someone is always trying to race you from a redlight, be it a soccer mom in a SUV or a black smoking diesel 4x4.

What heads are you running now? This week, I just ordered a set of 195 Profilers 195 cc straight plug castings. The price was $949 a pair shipped including valves. I will have to study on the Tri-y's.
