Default Who's running a CC 270H in their Big Block and what do you think?

I've finally gotten my car together and going with the 396, and I ended up swapping my dual plane manifold for an Edelbrock T2 to fit under the hood. The engine has an RV cam and I'm running the stock torque converter, and before I did the manifold swap the thing leapt out of the hole... As you can guess, the single plane doesn't really have that bottom end punch (it comes on around 3000rpm), and my RV cam falls off around 4500/5000 :( . I was thinking, since my current setup is working against itself, I might as well take advantage of some of the top end I'm missing out on. I figured since the torker II eliminates all life before 3000, there's no point in me running a cam that's made to pull from 750.
All that is to say that I'm not overly concearned with the launch at this point, but I'm wondering is the car still going to be driveable with the Torker 2 and the 270H and the stock converter?
thanks!

The stock convertor is deffinitly hurting you, also if your running a 3.36 gear or less it's going to deffinitly be hurting you.

Thanks, I'm running 3.55s, and yes I know the stock converter is going to keep me from any decent 60' time. Having accepted this, I thought i'd try to get some revs out of it... and still be able to drive it.

Don't forget you have the cubes. A BB will have a ton of torque even if two plug wires fell off.The 270 cam IMO is WAY too small,I ran the XE-274 and later changed to the XE-284 in my 406. This one's a keeper,as it lopes well at idle and pulls easily to 6500 rpms even with the dual plane intake.

I used to have the 270H in my 454. It's a rather old technology cam. IMO you may prefer one of the never grinds like the XE series.

the more cubes...them more cam you can handle without too many negitive effects on bottom end. The 270H is mild for a BB.

Well the Torker II is not a "TRUE" single plane manifold. It is in the way that if has no divider, but the ports are off set sizes so you don't lose too much bottom end torque. I'd say the TII would come alive below 2,000 and flow well all the way until 6,000rpm or so. I think the 270 w/ stock converter would work, but I'd opt for a high stall say a 3,000 and jump up to a 282XE cam. But I'm sure you're like me, $$$ is tight.

I have the 270H in my BB. I like it. It has a nice idle and seems to work well in my combination.

I too asked for Forum feedback regarding the 270H. Everyone said it was too mild, etc. It was recommened to me by my engine builder and he said that for my purposes (I use the car to cruise with PLENTY of WOT bursts, but no racing) it would be perfect. I called Comp Cams and talked to them about it. They said that the 280H (which I was considering) would not make enough vacuum to run the accessories. They recommended the 270H as well, so I went with it.

If you are going to race a lot, go bigger. I just wanted a good streetable cam with a nice lopey idle. I got that with the 270H.
