Has anyone modified their catalytic converter by putting a staright pipe inside the converter. I am wanting to eliminate the restiction of the converter but maintain the factory look. and of course I plan to use the vehicle of off road use only.
It's a good thing you said "off road use only"! Otherwise you might have been subjected to a cyber beating from the very vocal, minority population of politically correct members on this forum. :cry
I once performed this conversion for "off road use only" to a cat for a '95 Z28. It worked out well. On this particular catalytic converter, a 3" pipe fit perfectly inside after removing the catalyst brick. I used a wire feed welder to secure the pipe.
Happy offroading VETJET
I modified mine, it's now hollow. ( no emissions here ) But I should have installed a pipe into it. Someone told me without the pipe it causes turbulence.
I had an 88 S10 pickup that the cat modified itself. The plug rusted out and I dumped a half a million ceramic beads on the road. Once I put in the replacement plug, I didnt notice any change in sound.
